I consider myself pretty knowledgable when it comes to health food.  I knew about Acai a year before the rest of the world starting falling in love with it.  Goji and pomegranate…yep, was eating these superfruits for the last 5 years.  So, how is it that I completely missed out on the amazing Baobab Fruit?

What is The Baobab Fruit?

The Baobab fruit is a rather odd fruit.  It looks sort of like a mango, but it has a hard shell, more like a coconut. Once you cut the Baobab fruit open, you immediately notice that the pulp is dry.  That’s right, the Baobab fruit pulp is dry, sort of like the flesh of a very ripe coconut.

This is an important point, because it means that creating a Baobab fruit powder is very easy.  All you do is remove the seeds and crush up the Baobab fruit pulp.  No heat, no drying – nothing to kill the amazing nutrients in the Baobab fruit.

What is Spirulina?

Spirulina is a single-celled, blue-green microalgae that is often called a super food because of its vast nutrient profile. Spirulina most commonly grows in warm lakes such as Lake Chad in Africa. However, it is found in many environments such as soils, sands, alkaline lakes, brackish water, seawater and freshwater. Spirulina can also be cultivated by artificial farming methods.
